"We Put The Trick In The Trompe Of Trompe L'Oeil"
Second Steps
The floor was easy, a few color washes and some dry brushing. Some of the simplest techniques in Faux Finishing are used to create an authentic looking hut and porch.
We always tape off our lines to keep the mural clean and crisp.
Here we have a "blank" wall, to the right of the door...the Perfect Spot for an added "Trompe" effect. Here is a example of where worked stopped a bit to research more for the perfect piece to fit in this spot.
Again the Thatched roof like the floor was simple, a little wash and a lot of dry brushing.
Keeping the strokes in line with the floor. The Holes in the roof add even more depth to the picture.
After the Thatch was complete we taped it up with clear vinyl so the beams could be painted.
Well lookie there, "The Leopard" just appeared. After he was drawn, we base coated him with white paint.
To make painting him easier.
(Please excuse the toliet...now you know what is "behind door #1")
Here I am base coating the Trompe L'Oeil shield and spear. Reserch...this has now become a hut from a Zulu tribe...we found a colorful reference picture of a Zula Spear and shield. (note to self: remember to close bathroom door before taking a picture)
